    Lahaul & Spiti Tourist Attraction : Kardang Monastery

    Kardang Monastery or Kardang Gompa is 900 years old Buddhist Monastery. It is a famous Drukpa Lineage monastery in Lahaul valley, India.

    The monastery is situated on the left bank of the river Bhaga just above the village of Kardang and located at an altitude of 3500 m above sea level

    About Kardang Monastery
    It believed that Kardang Monastery built in the 12th century and it is a houses a large library of Buddhist literature, including the Kangyur and Tangyur scriptures in the Bhotia or Sherpa language.  This monastery houses the largest number of lamas and chomos. This monastery belongs to the Red Hat sect and has a large number of monks and nuns.

    In this Monastery you find the good collection of fine thankas, musical instruments such as lutes, drums, horns, as well as old weapons.
