    Bhimtal Lake is a picturesque lake and one of the major tourist attraction of Nainital.

    Location : Bhimtal Lake is located in the town of Bhimtal, Uttarakhand, India. It is just 22 kms far form Nainital.

    About  Bhimtal Lake
    Bhimtal is situated at an elevation of 1,370mts above sea level. Bhimtal Lake has a island in the center and approached only by a boat. Bhimtal Lake is the biggest lake of Nainital. On the island you can see a beautiful and large Aquarium which was previously a restaurant. Bhimtal Lake is home to a large variety of aquatic species. The Nainital Lake Development Authority have converted the restaurant into an aquarium to prevent pollution and clean the lake. Earlier, there used to be a restaurant on this island and a lot of tourists used to visit the restaurant.

    The name of lake is derived of the Bhima of Mahabharata. Bhimtal affords spectacular views and scene of nature’s beauty. On the bank of Bhimtal lake, an old Shiva temple, Bhimeshwara Mahadev  is situated. It believed that this temple built when Bhima visited the place during the banishment (vanvas) period of Pandavas. In the 17th century, present temple was renovated by Baz Bahadur of Chand Dynasty.

    Bhimtal covers larger area than Nainital and millions of tourists visit Bhimtal Lake every year to enjoy the stationary and antiquated fineness of this place. It is a everlasting lake which not only supports a large variety of aqueous life but is a winter stopover for Trans Himalayan birds.

    Main Attraction :
    Bhim Tal provides abundant water sport opportunities for amateurs with paddling and boating facilities. For recreation one can do boating at the lake or explore the surrounding jungle on foot.

    Bhimtal is slightly on the warmer side in mid June, but makes for an all year round destination.
