Legend about Bhimgoda Tank
According to mythological legend this sacred tank came into existence when Bhim hit his knee (Goda in Hindi) against the ground. Bhim, the second of the five Pandavas in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. When Bhima felt the need for water, he thrusted his knee against the rocks and out flew streams of water. The water of the Ganges flows into this tank. So that the name of Bhimgoda is a combination of the words Bhim (the legendary hero in Mahabharata) and goda (a Hindi word for knee).
This kund has the water of the Ganges flowing into it. During the modern times, the sacred Bhimgoda Kund plays an important role in regulating the excess water of River Ganges. A dam that is located close to the Bhimgoda tank is also worth watching.
