Lakshmi Ashram is located in a solitary area in a dense jungle. Surrounding location of ashram provide the majestic views of Himalayan ranges all around. In the year 1948, Lakshmi Ashram founded by the Catherine Hillman. Catherine Hillman was later famous as Sarlaben, was a fosterling of Mahatma Gandhi. In year 1931, Catherine Hillman (Sarlaben) was left the London and join in his struggle for independence with Mahatma Gandhi. She was the eulogist of Mahatma Gandhi. Later she adopted the name Sarlaben and founded this ashram for the purpose to educate the girls living in the Himalayan region. The ashram teaches them several skills, like growing vegetables, cooking, caring for the animals and cleaning.
Lakshmi Ashram also popularly known as Sarla Ashram. In 1948, Sarla Ashram was established as an educational institution. It is a Gandhian Basic Institute of Education only for girls.This ashram is home to several orphan girls and women. Main aim of the ashram is to provide Kumaoni women a safe shelter and to fit up them with basic skills to lead an independent life.
