In ancident time this temple is also known as Daksh Prajapati Mandir. The name of this temple after King Daksha Prajapati, the father of Sati or Dakshayani. In 1810 AD, present temple was built by Queen Dhankaur and in year 1962 this temple was rebuilt.This temple is legendary to Sati (Dakshayini), spouse of Lord Shiva and her father King Daksha Prajapati.
This temple is tpopular among devotees due to its association with an interesting legend. This temple is also known as Daksha Temple or Shri Daksheshwar temple.
History
In Hindu mythology, Daksha is one of the 14 Prajapatis, creator deities, presiding over procreation and protector of life. According to Hindu Mythology the father of Dakshayani or Sati , King Daksha Prajapati, performed a yagna. Sati, the wife of Lord Shiva. When King Daksha Prajapati, performed a yagna, then he deliberately did not invite Lord Shiva. When Lord Shiva arrived uninvited, he was further insulted by the king, seeing which Sati felt infuriated and self-immolated herself in the yagna kund. Demon Virabhadra and and also his ganas killed the King Daksha, born out of Shiva's anger. Later the king was brought to life and given a goat's head by Shiva. Daksha Mahadev Temple is thankfulness to this legend.
